Dexter Builders is a residential remodeling and construction company focused on delivering quality craftsmanship, clear communication, and well-managed projects. We are hiring an experienced, dependable Lead Carpenter to lead hands-on carpentry work on our remodeling projects.
This position is ideal for a skilled carpenter who takes pride in excellent workmanship, can lead by example, and knows how to keep a job moving safely and efficiently.
The Lead Carpenter is responsible for planning and performing carpentry work while leading and supporting a field crew. The primary focus of this role is structural framing and exterior siding, including weatherproofing and trim details that make an exterior perform and look great. You will also be asked to do other remodeling work including demolition, repairs, and finishing trades.
The Lead Carpenter will work closely with Project Managers and other leads to coordinate daily field activities, maintain jobsite standards, and help ensure projects are completed on schedule and to Dexter Builders’ quality expectations.
· Lead and work alongside a carpentry crew on residential remodeling and construction projects.
· Read and build from plans, drawings, specifications, and field measurements.
· Perform and oversee structural framing, including floors, walls, roof framing, headers, openings, sheathing, blocking, stairs, and related structural details.
· Install exterior siding, trim, soffit, fascia, weather-resistive barriers, flashing, and other exterior components.
· Ensure proper layout, fit, finish, weatherproofing, and compliance with local building codes.
· Perform finishing trades including occasional drywall, trim, etc.
· Coordinate daily work with the Project Managers.
· Keep projects progressing by identifying material needs, conflicts, and jobsite issues early.
· Complete clear, accurate daily job logs and communicate schedule or scope concerns promptly.
· Train, guide, and hold crew members accountable for safety, productivity, workmanship, and professionalism.
· Maintain company tools, equipment, and vehicles in safe working order.
· Follow and enforce Dexter Builders’ jobsite safety plan.
· Significant residential carpentry experience, with strong demonstrated ability in framing.
· Proven experience leading a crew while remaining productive in the field.
· Ability to interpret plans, perform layout, and solve practical on-site construction problems.
· Strong working knowledge of exterior weatherproofing, flashing, siding, and trim details.
· Detail-oriented with high standards for craftsmanship, cleanliness, and jobsite organization.
· Strong communication skills and a professional, team-oriented approach.
· Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to our office each morning.
· Ability to perform physical work, including lifting, climbing, and working outdoors.
· Basic hand tools required. Dexter Builders provides a company van and power tools.
· Competitive hourly pay based on experience, with overtime available $30-40/hr.
